Many people today have found themselves with a less than perfect credit score, often this is through no fault of their own, redundancy, shorter hours at work, often something from a person’s past shows up on their credit report, maybe their credit report is inaccurate, for example has your name been linked to an ex partners debts or is the house that you live in got a history left behind by a previous occupier.
Often by checking your credit history records some records can be updated or removed from the files. When you first look at your online credit files from the likes of Experian it can be quite shocking as to what’s known about you and how far back these records go.
How to Improve your credit score
Whilst there is no magic wand to improve a poor credit history there are a few things that can start you off on the right track to gaining credit easier in the future.
1. Get yourself added to the electoral roll, not being listed here at a checkable address will not by itself prevent you from obtaining credit it will lower your credit score.
2. Check your credit file with companies like Experian, see what they hold about you, they offer a free 30 day promotion and you may find the credit records on file about you are not correct, get these errors amended as this will improve your credit rating.
3. Consider taking out a credit card designed for people with either a poor credit history or just no history of having credit, use the credit card, pay your payments on time every month and this will have a positive effect on your credit rating.
4. Pay all your bills on time, when you check your credit history file any late payments will be highlighted.
